Silicon Valley Chapter 103

Empowering Women in the Accounting and Financial Professions since 1938!

ASWA was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Members include partners in national, regional and local CPA firms, financial officers, controllers, academicians, financial analysts and data processing consultants, recent college graduates and women returning to the work force. The majority of our members have attained professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, and CFP. The mission of ASWA is to enable women in all accounting and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.

President’s Message

President’s Message

Welcome to ASWA fiscal year 2008-2009. I am grateful and honored to have been installed as your President. The following installation was bestowed up each Board Member at the Installation Dinner on Tuesday, June 24, 2008:

President – members will expect the office duties to be administered impartially, with understanding and tolerance.

President Elect – is called upon by the President to assist in the conduct of the affairs of the organization. Because of the warm, happy and close relationship with the President, both can work closely and will preside at a moment’s notice if needed.

Secretary – is to be the keeper of the records and serve as the President’s right hand. Be concise and accurate in recording what is done – not what is said! Let the record be such that it will show a true history of the organization’s activities. The correspondence will be in the name of the ASWA and therefore reflects on the membership as a whole.

Treasurer – is to guard ASWA funds and keep the membership informed of its financial health, collecting whatever dues are assessed, making disbursements as authorized by the Board of Directors, and presenting reports as required by the bylaws.

Immediate Past President – having served as President, now will serve as Past-President and advisor to the board. Under her leadership ASWA has done well, and now is the time to mentor others and pass on the experience and dedication to ASWA in an advisory capacity. Now is the time to mentor others along, to serve as advisor and to pass the torch, so to speak, on to a new board of leaders.

We, the Board have agreed to add our time and talents to that of other women accountants toward achievement of our goals. We are committed to the membership for the development and fulfillment of ASWA mission and purposes. We have been entrusted with the keys to the future. We will not put them away for safekeeping and let them get tarnished. Through constant use, we unlock the doors leading to a successful and rewarding future!

ASWA has been recognized as a team environment, so let’s continue to pull together and “position ASWA as the home for all women accounting professionals whether new to the field, experienced or considering a career transition”!
